The Day Has Come: Twitter Reveals Ad Platform
by Jessica Weil
Twitter officially announced its advertising platform on Tuesday.
The service, called Promotional Tweets, allows advertisers to place their selected tweets at the top of search results within Twitter. Advertisers can promote tweets that they have sent to users, or they can select tweets from users about their brand. Whatever tweet is selected will stay at the top of results as long as the advertiser has purchased the use of the keyword being searched.

Representatives from Twitter say that the company decided on search advertising because it is something with which users are already familiar, after years of similar ads from Google.
Twitter also plans to eventually expand advertising beyond search and is looking at local advertising directed at people who attach their location to their mobile tweets, for example. The company also could place ads based on analysis of what interests users.
